Two starting points. One Mattituck shop.
Gasoline, diesel and trailer inspections.
We offer gasoline safety/emissions inspections, light-duty OBD diesel inspections, heavy-duty smoke-opacity testing and trailer inspections. Share your vehicle and registration details so we can identify the applicable inspection.
Diesel inspection detailsKnow what to expect.
New York requires safety inspections at least every 12 months for registered vehicles. Most vehicles also need an emissions inspection. The applicable requirements depend on the vehicle; an inspection is a check against those requirements, not a guarantee of its future condition.
Read the NY DMV inspection guideWhat to discuss before inspection
Safety and emissions
The safety inspection covers items such as brakes, tires, lights and other required equipment. Emissions testing depends on the vehicle; having an emissions exemption does not by itself remove the safety-inspection requirement.
A recent battery change or repair
Tell us if the battery was disconnected or fault codes were cleared recently. This can reset OBD readiness monitors, even when the check-engine light is off. The shop can discuss what that means for your inspection.
A previous inspection report
If you are returning after an unsuccessful inspection, bring the report and any repair information. Ask about the applicable reinspection process and charges before work starts.
A few helpful answers.
Diesel inspection detailsCan I walk in?
Yes. Appointments and walk-ins are both welcome. Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–7:00 PM; Saturday 9:00 AM–6:00 PM; Sunday closed. Latest arrival for an inspection or walk-in: Monday–Friday 6:30 PM; Saturday 5:30 PM. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before closing. Call to check the day's workload; online appointment requests are confirmed by the team.
Can I wait for my inspection?
Yes, you can wait at the shop. The wait depends on the schedule and the work your vehicle needs, so ask the team about the expected timing.
Do you inspect trailers?
Yes, we offer trailer inspections. Bring the trailer's registration details so the team can identify the applicable safety inspection. You can use the NYS vehicle inspection request and note that you are bringing a trailer.
Do you also offer diesel inspections?
Yes. Diesel requirements vary by vehicle and registration. See our diesel inspection page, then share your vehicle details so we can confirm the appropriate inspection.
What if my vehicle needs repairs?
An inspection result is separate from repair authorization. New York requires your permission before an inspection station starts repairs. Ask the team to explain any findings and your next steps.
Can I book an inspection with an oil change or tire service?
Yes. Select the inspection and any additional services in one request. Add a note if you are working around an expiration date. You can wait at the shop; the team confirms the combined work and expected timing, and can also discuss a drop-off.
Will an inspection guarantee that nothing is wrong with my car?
No. An inspection checks applicable requirements at the time of the test. Tell us separately about a noise, leak, warning light or driving concern so the shop can discuss diagnosis in addition to the inspection.
