Brake Fluid Service
Brake fluid maintenance and a changed brake pedal are different concerns. Tell us about both so the visit starts with the right checks.
Most passenger vehicles use a brake fluid that absorbs moisture over time. The manufacturer’s fluid specification and service instructions determine how maintenance should be performed. Fluid appearance alone is not a complete assessment of the hydraulic system.
A soft or sinking pedal, fluid loss or reduced braking needs diagnosis before routine fluid service is considered. If the vehicle cannot brake normally, stop safely and arrange assistance rather than driving it to the shop.
Signs that bring vehicles in
- The vehicle’s brake-fluid service interval has arrived
- The previous fluid-service date is unknown
- A change in pedal feel that needs diagnosis before maintenance
- Fluid loss or a hydraulic repair that requires separate attention
What the visit involves
- Review of the required brake fluid and the vehicle’s maintenance instructions
- Assessment of reported pedal changes or fluid loss before routine service
- Explanation of fluid exchange or bleeding needs and any separate hydraulic repair
Diagnosis before authorization
A request does not guarantee a specific diagnosis, price or completion time. The shop confirms the appointment, explains findings and obtains authorization before repair work moves forward.
Common questions
Is brake fluid replaced when the pads are replaced?
Pad replacement and fluid maintenance are separate jobs. Whether fluid service is due depends on the vehicle’s instructions and condition. Ask for both to be reviewed if the previous fluid-service date is unknown.
Can a brake fluid exchange repair a leak?
No. A leaking line, hose, caliper or other component needs its own repair. Topping up or exchanging fluid does not fix the source of fluid loss or establish that the vehicle is safe to drive.
