Brake Caliper Replacement

Uneven brake wear needs a cause, not just new pads. Caliper movement, related hardware and hydraulic faults can all affect the result.

A dragging or seized caliper applies one wheel unevenly, which shows up as pull, heat, uneven pad wear or a smell from one corner. Because the symptoms overlap with pads and hoses, caliper work starts with confirming which corner is actually at fault.

Signs that bring vehicles in

  • The vehicle pulls to one side while braking
  • One wheel is disproportionately hot after driving
  • Pads on one corner wear out much faster than the others
  • A burning smell after ordinary driving

What the visit involves

  • Inspection of the affected brake and comparison of wear across the axle
  • Evaluation of caliper operation and related hardware or hydraulic concerns
  • A proposed repair scope covering affected friction parts where inspection calls for them

Diagnosis before authorization

A request does not guarantee a specific diagnosis, price or completion time. The shop confirms the appointment, explains findings and obtains authorization before repair work moves forward.

Common questions

Does pulling while braking prove a caliper is bad?

No. Tires, friction surfaces and hydraulic faults can also contribute. Tell us whether the pull happens only while braking, and whether there is heat or odor, so the inspection can address the complete concern.

Will new pads fix a sticking caliper?

Pads do not correct a caliper that cannot apply or release properly. The cause of the uneven wear must be addressed; the shop then checks whether heat or wear has also affected the pads and rotor.
