Wheel Alignment
Alignment begins with the condition of the tires and suspension. Correct angles cannot compensate for a worn joint or damaged tire.
Wheel alignment measures the angles that affect how the tires meet the road and how the vehicle tracks. The appropriate specifications and available adjustments depend on the vehicle’s design and any modifications.
NOFO reviews pulling, off-center steering and tire wear before recommending adjustment. Tire pressure, tire condition and steering or suspension wear can contribute to similar symptoms. Mention a curb impact, pothole or recent suspension work, and bring any prior alignment report if the concern keeps returning.
Signs that bring vehicles in
- The vehicle pulls or drifts to one side
- A steering wheel that sits off-center when driving straight
- Rapid or uneven tire wear on the shoulders
- Recently replaced tires or suspension components
What the visit involves
- Review of tire wear and relevant steering or suspension condition
- Measurement of alignment angles against the vehicle’s applicable specifications
- Adjustment where the design allows, with remaining limits or required repairs explained
Diagnosis before authorization
A request does not guarantee a specific diagnosis, price or completion time. The shop confirms the appointment, explains findings and obtains authorization before repair work moves forward.
Common questions
Is alignment the same as balancing the tires?
No. Alignment concerns wheel angles; balancing addresses the rotating tire-and-wheel assembly’s weight distribution. Pulling and uneven wear may lead toward alignment checks, while vibration may need balancing or other diagnosis.
Can alignment fix existing uneven tire wear?
It can address an alignment cause of future wear, but it cannot restore tread already worn away. Tire condition and any suspension faults still need to be considered when planning the work.
Why might worn suspension parts delay an alignment?
Loose or damaged components can prevent the wheels from holding the intended angles. The shop explains the relevant findings and any repairs needed before final adjustment rather than masking the condition.
