Tune-Up

“Tune-up” can mean different things. Tell us whether you are following a maintenance schedule or trying to resolve rough running.

Modern engines do not share one tune-up checklist. Scheduled spark-plug or filter work depends on the engine and its maintenance instructions. Coils, sensors and other components should not be replaced simply because the vehicle has reached a mileage milestone.

At NOFO, a routine maintenance request is distinguished from a complaint such as hesitation, hard starting or rough idle. Those symptoms can need diagnosis before any parts are proposed. Share the previous service records and the conditions in which the engine behaves differently.

Signs that bring vehicles in

  • Rough idle, hesitation or a subtle loss of responsiveness
  • Fuel economy that has quietly gotten worse
  • Hard starts in cold or damp weather
  • A spark-plug interval has arrived for the engine

What the visit involves

  • Review of the engine’s scheduled ignition and filter requirements
  • Identification of completed work and any current running symptoms
  • A maintenance or diagnostic scope explained before parts are replaced

Diagnosis before authorization

A request does not guarantee a specific diagnosis, price or completion time. The shop confirms the appointment, explains findings and obtains authorization before repair work moves forward.

Common questions

Will a tune-up fix a check-engine light?

Only if the work addresses the actual fault. A warning can involve many systems, so code information and testing should guide the repair rather than assuming spark plugs or filters will solve it.

Are ignition coils changed with every set of plugs?

Not automatically. Coil replacement should reflect a fault, condition or a vehicle-specific requirement. Ask which parts are due as maintenance and which are being recommended because of diagnostic findings.
